We love a good live concert! I mean, who doesn’t? The added bonus is getting to capture these performances up close as a concert photographer with our cameras! Concerts are one of our favorite things to photograph. We recently attended The Kay Brothers and The Burney Sisters show at the beautiful Cooper’s Ridge Event Venue just outside of Columbia, Mo. If you’ve been to Warm Springs Ranch to see the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales, Cooper’s Ridge is just a hop, skip and a jump away.
The Kay Brothers is a Missouri band that loves to tip their straw hats to the traditional music of their homeland: The Ozarks… where old-time fiddle music received a quick flash fry of foot stompin’ Country Blues as it made its way across the Mississippi River. The talented Pat, Brian and Jake make up the group and their songs are a collection of stories from their own experiences and those of long ago. Whether it’s a song about the crawdad hole or the mole in the ground – or a story about someone who needs to be told to stop kicking my dog around – The Kay Brothers know how to pick a song on their guitar, banjo, or homemade musical device.
The Burney Sisters are a dynamic sister trio with an indie folk/pop sound made up of Emma, Olivia and Bella. The sisters started singing around the house when they were barely able to walk. With some vocal coaching from their Mom, they began harmonizing well before they picked up instruments. And they are so amazing! Their harmonies and talents on so many instruments is such a joy to watch.
When all of these talented performers join together on stage it’s such a fun time that makes your want to stomp your feet, clap your hands and maybe even throw a few high kicks in the air like the Kay Brother’s very own overall-wearing Jake. That’ll bring a smile to face for sure. If you haven’t had the thrill of watching these groups either solo or together on stage, you need to make it happen!
